Difference Between Impact Drill & Rotary Hammer Drill

Drills are the primary type of power tool included in every tool kit. Their basic function is driving screws and drilling holes in timber, metal, or plastic material. These drills come in different types based on various features and applications. Two of its common types that you can easily find in the hardware shop are Rotary hammer drills and Impact drills.

What Is The Difference Between Impact Drill & Rotary Hammer Drill

Impact Drill

The primary purpose of using this tool is to drive the screws or loosen the bolts. This drill can easily achieve all the basic drilling tasks. As it can produce high rotational force, impact drills can instantly drive the largest wood screws.

Rotary Hammer Drill

These drills, as their name suggests, have in-built hammering capability to facilitate boring into masonry and other more robust materials. It has a piston mechanism rather than a clutch-type. The rotary hammer drill is a heavy-duty type of device that is mostly used by tradesmen or craftsmen.

Difference between an Impact Drill and Rotary Hammer Drill

Impact Drill – One of the common applications of impact drill is to drive the screws. It performs this work with intense speed and power. Usually, it doesn’t have a key less chuck, but it uses a collet that works on hex shanked driver bits. It can drive even the longest and fastest screws with high efficiency. This drill proves to be an ideal option for driving thick screws into the hardwood and removing the stuck screws

Pros of using Impact Drill

  • It is preferred for safety and accuracy factors in any job.
  • It applies constant torque throughout the process.
  • It is compatible with almost all types of drill and screw-driving bits.
  • It can be configured with additional accessories like wire wheel brushes and rotary sanders.
  • It has the option of the slip clutch to adjust the torque parameter.
  • It comes at an affordable price rate.
Cons of using Impact Drill

  • It can stall when driving long and large fasteners.
  • Sometimes it can strip the screws that are getting a drive.
  • There is a possibility of bits loosening in the chuck.
  • It can put a strain on the user while using the device.

Rotary Hammer Drill

A rotary hammer drill can perform heavy tasks such as drilling and chiselling hard materials. It is used for hammering brittle materials and ensuring quick drilling with smooth operation. It provides a lot more impact on energy and has high durability. The rotary hammer is meant for larger jobs like drilling holes in hardened concrete materials. It can also be fitted with all sorts of other attachments. A few of its accessories include chisels for breaking metals, breaking concrete, etc.

Pros of using Rotary Hammer Drill

  • The drill has three settings drill mode, hammer drill and just hammer mode.
  • It is a more powerful tool than other drill types. Thus, it can drill holes larger than the one-inch diameter.
  • It possesses a large piston to produce a large amount of power.
  • It is one of the most comfortable tools. Users can experience very fewer vibrations by using this drill type.
Cons of using a Rotary Hammer Drill

  • A rotary hammer drill is bulkier and heavier.
  • It is usually very expensive to purchase.
  • As the tool mostly uses SDS chucks, the bit needs to screw into the chuck twice.

Conclusion

Based on the devices’ features and pros & cons, you can relate to and analyse which device is more suitable for your job requirement. This post shows us that a rotary hammer is an advanced version of the hammer drill. Thus, it is more powerful than the hammer drill and mainly used in construction. In comparison, the impact drill is generally used for driving or removing the screws, nuts and bolts. Also, it can be used as a regular drill, but in that case, the user needs to use hex shank drill bits.

Safety Helmets colour code guide

Maintaining the proper fit and style of PPE is important. Industrial plants and sites with a risk of injury or accidents are required to ensure the proper safety of people.

Safety helmets come in to protect our heads from any kind of fatal injury or accident while working in a danger-prone area. Various kinds, types of fits, and types of safety and PPE equipment are available in the market. But choosing the right one is important as it’s for the sake of work and death!

SAFETY HELMETS COLOUR CODES AND THEIR USES

Safety helmets come in pre-defined colour codes for the uses based on the type of work and the site you are present at. These standard guidelines are made by some of the agencies, which are being followed by several organisations today. It makes it easier and more organised to know which helmet is suitable for the kind of work you are doing.

Below are the colour codes mandates for the safety helmets and their uses –

1. Yellow colour safety helmets

This colour code is for earth-moving operators, heavy-duty workers, and labourers working on construction sites.

2.Blue colour safety helmets

This colour is preferred by the electricians or technical workers like carpenters and interim workers.

3. Brown colour safety helmets

This is used by welders or people with high heat working areas

4. Green colour safety helmets

This shade is worn by the safety inspectors on-site, and some new trainees and officers also prefer green colour helmets.

5. White colour safety helmets

This is the basic colour that catches an eye amongst all the other colours. Hence, these colour helmets are used by supervisors, architects, engineers, and managers.

6. Red colour safety helmets

This colour is used by the firefighters and emergency trainees

7. Grey colour safety helmets

These are issued to site visitors on the worksite.

8. Pink safety helmets

These are preferred by female workers. In some companies, these are kept as an additional helmet.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HAVING THE COLOUR CODE?

Many companies and industries have kept the criteria of colour codes for safety helmets. No one will put you in jail or ask for a fine for not following them in the eye of the law and rule. Yet these colour codes are made for the benefit and safety of the people working on site.  There are various benefits of maintaining colour codes of safety helmets.

HERE ARE SOME OF THEM-

Identification

Colour codes help identify the employee’s position and give a clear idea of what task a person is attending. It helps a person in an emergency or query; colour sorts out who to look for.  Managers can also easily identify which group of workers is working on which site

Fast and smooth working process

Everyone following the colour code for safety helmets clearly understands which task they must perform. Also, there is a better differentiation for the co-workers to know which team is running which process. So it makes the work clear and smooth for working.

Although colour plays an important role, only looking for the colour is not enough. There are various key points to consider while you are buying a safety helmet.

Some of them are:

Quality check

The safety helmet should have a quality mark to ensure proper safety.  They are made of different materials. You should always check the quality of the helmet according to the task you have to perform on-site. As if you just look for the colour, it may still be wrong for you if the quality is not up to the mark. Therefore, looking for quality and material is always suggested before looking for the colour code.

Helmet shelf life

Just like most PPE PRODUCTS, safety helmets come with an expiry date as well. The material used in making the safety helmets deteriorates with time. Hence, the helmets should be timely replaced and maintained. Equally, the quality should never be compromised.
